Habitat Youth Programs
Whether you’re in high school, college, or on a gap year between the two, community service programs can play a powerful role in helping you find your passion and your voice while volunteering.
Encountering new ideas, people, and places is critical to shaping your worldview and making connections with your peers and the world at large. Not to mention that developing talents, practicing teamwork skills, and gaining real-world experience can enhance any college application or resume.
If you are a teen looking for community service ideas for a summer or long term, consider one or more of these opportunities with Habitat for Humanity to improve yourself while improving the world around you.
Youth Volunteer Opportunities
-
Construction
As a youth construction volunteer on a Habitat homesite, you can expect to work alongside other volunteers and Habitat staff members to build homes for families in need. The work is physically demanding, but also a lot of fun. You'll learn new skills and techniques from experienced builders and work together as a team to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
One of the best parts is getting to meet the families who will eventually move into the homes you're building and seeing the impact your work will have on their lives. It's a truly rewarding experience that allows you to make a tangible difference in your community. You must be 16 or older to work on a construction site.
-
Special Projects
As a special projects volunteer, you'll be responsible for a variety of tasks that help keep our build sites and facilities in top shape. Some of the tasks you may be involved in include mowing lawns, cleaning and refreshing parking lots, decorating prayer boards, small repairs, and preparing lunches for other volunteers. Depending on the needs, you may be asked to help with other projects.
While volunteering, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of volunteers and contribute to a cause that makes a real difference in people's lives. You'll also gain valuable skills and experience that can help you in your future endeavors. Age restrictions vary with each project.

ReStore
As a Habitat ReStore youth volunteer, you can expect to work alongside other volunteers and staff members to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Your tasks may include sorting and organizing inventory, assisting customers with their purchases, and preparing donated items for sale. You may also help with cleaning and maintaining the store, as well as participating in special events and promotions.
This is a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and make a positive impact in your community. You'll also gain valuable experience working in a retail environment and contributing to a worthy cause. You must be 14 or older to work in the ReStore.
We aim to invest in the future and instill a love of volunteering from an early age by providing a variety of volunteer opportunities for those aged 14 and up.
Younger generations have always inspired the rest of us to better our world. That kind of idealism can be infectious, and when paired with tangible service, real change can occur. Our Habitat Youth Programs are the intersection of ambition and action.
There are numerous benefits to volunteering in general, but volunteering with Habitat specifically provides the ability to:
Meet and work with other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners.
Understand the needs of others, particularly concerning poor living conditions versus safe, affordable housing.
Become involved in the strengthening of your own neighborhoods and communities.
Participate in meaningful work, resulting in a sense of accomplishment.
Learn new skills and gain confidence.
Improve your own life and the lives of others in practical and long-lasting ways.
Have fun in a way you may not have thought possible.
