ReStore Manager

Job Description—March 2024

I. Summary

The ReStore Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operational and management functions of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The store’s mission is to generate revenue through the sale of donated building materials and household items to support HFHMOV. Through its efforts, the store facilitates recycling, minimalizes landfill waste, provides low-cost home improvement items, and increases Habitat’s visibility in our community. HFHMOV is a fast-paced, constantly moving environment; flexibility and attention to detail are paramount. 

II. Principal Areas of Responsibility

Operational:

  • Promote donations and drive sales and profits of the ReStore to provide sustainable funding to support HFHMOV’s mission.

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising ReStore staff and volunteers.

  • Lead ReStore staff and volunteers in donation procurement, item processing, and sales floor merchandising.

  • Work with the development team on marketing and advertising programs to build store visibility in the community.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with potential and existing donors, including contractors, suppliers, individuals, businesses, community, and church groups to increase the quality and quantity of merchandise donations.

  • Enforce and uphold policies and procedures that ensure the safe, secure, and high-quality performance of all aspects of ReStore activities.

  • Oversee scheduling of all store activities, including staff schedules, volunteer schedules, donation pick-up schedules, and other special events.

  • Stays current with and follows trade standards, including OSHA, EPA, CPSC, DOT, and state/city requirements, and relays information to all relevant personnel.

  • Work in partnership with other staff to recruit, train, and engage volunteers in meaningful ways.

Finance and Administration:

  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director to develop, maintain, and report on the status of the annual operating budget and recommend capital expenditures.

  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting practices, reconciling daily sales and closing out all registers daily.

  • Develop and enforce pricing policy and processes for store merchandise.

III. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or commensurate experience.

  • At least three years of experience in employee and/or volunteer management.

  • Must be available to work Saturdays, as needed.

  • Experience in a retail environment preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

  • Dedication and ability to demonstrate a passion for the mission and core values of HFHMOV.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize, coordinate, delegate, and manage multiple work activities.

  • Attention to detail and overall quality control.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, dealing with various people, personalities, and backgrounds.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and public relations skills.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.

  • Dependable on and off-site job attendance.
